Civil Construction General Foreman

About the Role
As a Civil Construction General Foreman at Burkes Mechanical, you will oversee and direct all civil construction activities across the jobsite, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans and specifications.
This role serves as the primary field leader, managing foremen and crews while acting as the key liaison between craft labor and project leadership. Learn more about our industrial construction services and how we support complex civil projects across the Southeast.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate daily plans during foreman meetings to ensure clear direction and work sequencing
- Collect and submit daily foreman reports to the Superintendent
- Oversee all project activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution
- Lead by example and promote a strong safety-first, team-oriented environment
- Notify the Superintendent immediately of any jobsite needs, delays, or concerns
- Maintain consistent communication with all foremen throughout the workday
- Verify that all work is performed safely and according to project expectations
- Follow and enforce the established chain of command across crews
- Maintain communication with Superintendent and Project Manager regarding progress and needs
- Promote accountability by addressing issues quickly and ensuring corrective action
- Track and maintain tooling, equipment, and consumable materials
- Support uninterrupted workflow through proper coordination and planning
- Provide at least two weeks’ notice for scheduled time off
- Enforce company safety programs and OSHA standards
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required, trade or technical training preferred
- 7+ years of civil construction experience with leadership responsibility
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, grading, utilities, drainage, concrete, and roadwork
- Understanding of construction safety standards and best practices
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience in industrial, commercial, or heavy construction environments
Work Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Walk uneven terrain and active construction sites
- Climb in and around equipment and excavations
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Work around heavy equipment, noise, and dust
- Stand, walk, bend, and work at heights for extended periods
- Travel to job sites as required
