About the Role

As a Mechanical Millwright at Burkes Mechanical you’ll install, align, maintain, and troubleshoot heavy rotating equipment, conveyors, compressors, pumps, and associated mechanical systems that keep industrial facilities running safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, align, and set heavy machinery: pumps, compressors, gearboxes, conveyors, and rotating equipment.

  • Perform precision shaft alignments, coupling installations, bearing replacements, and vibration checks.

  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical assemblies and rotating equipment per manufacturer specs.

  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, alignment prints, and work orders.

  • Operate hoisting equipment, rig and secure loads, and verify proper rigging hardware and lift plans.

  • Coordinate with welders, fitters, electricians, and QC during installation, commissioning, and turnarounds.

  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules, complete equipment logs, and document repair/inspection records.

  • Participate in daily toolbox talks, follow lockout/tagout procedures, and stop unsafe work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 2+ years’ experience as a millwright, mechanical technician, or related heavy-industrial mechanical role preferred.

  • Proven experience with shaft alignment, precision measurement tools (dial indicators, laser alignment), and mechanical rigging.

  • Comfortable reading mechanical prints, assembly drawings, and vendor manuals.

  • Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in shop and field environments.

Preferred Certifications and Training

  • NCCER millwright credentials, trade school, or apprenticeship experience preferred.

  • Certifications in laser alignment, vibration basics, or equipment-specific vendor training are a plus.

  • OSHA 10/30, confined space, rigging fundamentals, and forklift certification preferred or required by project.

  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting, bearings and seals knowledge, and familiarity with rotating equipment maintenance best practices.
