Mechanical Pipe Fitter

Build your future with Burkes Mechanical.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Pipe Fitter at Burkes Mechanical you’ll assemble, fit, and install piping systems and associated mechanical components used across refineries, petrochemical plants, power stations, and other heavy-industry facilities. You’ll work from spool drawings, isometrics and piping layouts to prepare spools and assemblies for welding, testing, and field installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret spool drawings, piping isometrics, material lists and basic mechanical layouts.

  • Measure, mark, cut, bevel, fit and tack pipe spools and assemblies to spec.

  • Install fittings, flanges, supports, hangers and associated mechanical components for shop or field installation.

  • Use pipe-fitup tools (jacks, rollers, bevelers), grinders, lifting/rigging gear and basic metrology tools to ensure dimensional accuracy.

  • Collaborate with welders, QC and layout techs on NDT prep, joint traceability, and weld repairs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 2+ years’ experience in pipe fitting, spool fabrication, or heavy-industry mechanical fabrication preferred.

  • Ability to read basic isometrics and follow detailed written work instructions.

  • Comfortable working with hand and power tools, performing routine rigging of small lifts, and working from lifts or stands.

Preferred Training and Certifications

  • NCCER pipefitting credential or equivalent apprenticeship/completion of pipefitting curriculum preferred.

  • Welding qualification experience or familiarity with welding shop practices is a plus.

  • OSHA 10 (or 30), hot work permits, confined space, and any site-specific safety tickets as required by projects. For certain projects, HAZWOPER or additional hazardous-materials training may be required.

What We Offer

  • Hands-on shop and field work on varied heavy-industry projects that build craft skill and resume depth.

  • Clear craft progression: helper → fitter → lead fitter → field pipe fitter / spool lead.

  • On-the-job mentorship, paid safety training, and support to pursue NCCER credentials and welding qualifications.

  • A team-first culture that values craftsmanship, reliability, and safe execution.
