About the Role
As a Fabrication MIG Welder at Burkes Fabrication, you will perform GMAW (MIG) welding to produce high-quality welds on pipe, structural components, and fabricated assemblies. You’ll support fitters and layout techs, prepare joints to welding specification, and work with QA/QC to ensure weld integrity and traceability.
Key Responsibilities

Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel, stainless, and other alloys per weld procedure specifications.

Fit, tack, bevel, and prepare joints to required tolerances prior to welding.

Read and interpret fabrication drawings, joint detail sketches, and work orders.

Maintain weld quality: clean joints, control weld profile, and execute weld repairs per QA instructions.

Prepare and maintain welding documentation: joint/heat traceability, weld maps, and qualification records.

Perform basic maintenance and consumable changes on welding machines and torches; report equipment defects.

Support NDT preparation and cooperate with inspectors during inspections and acceptance testing.

Follow hot work permitting, lockout/tagout, and site safety procedures; stop unsafe work and raise concerns.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Proven MIG (GMAW) welding experience in a fabrication or industrial shop environment.

Ability to read basic fabrication drawings and follow written welding procedures.

Comfortable welding in multiple positions and working at heights when required.

Strong attention to fit-up, dimensional accuracy, and weld quality.

Physically able to handle shop work: lifting, positioning, and repetitive tasks.
Preferred Certifications and Training
-
Welding qualifications per employer or ASME Section IX preferred.

AWS or NCCER welding credentials, trade school, or apprenticeship background a plus.

OSHA 10 (or 30), hot work awareness, and confined space awareness preferred.

Experience with NDT prep (visual, dye penetrant, magnetic particle) is advantageous.
