Fabrication Supervisor

About the Role

As a Fabrication Supervisor at Burkes Fabrication you’ll lead the shop floor and small crews to deliver safe, on-spec fabrication work on schedule. You’ll coordinate fit-up, welding, lifting, QA/QC, and spooling activities while interfacing with project management, layout techs and QA to keep production moving and quality verifiable. 

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day fabrication operations: assign crews, sequence work, track progress against production schedules, and enforce workmanship standards. 

• Oversee fit-up, tack welding, spooling, and pre-NDT preparation; ensure traceability of joints, heat numbers and weld records. 

• Enforce safety controls for hot work, lifting, confined space entries and permit-driven activities; approve or confirm hot work permitting and fire watch assignments when required. 

• Mentor and develop shop personnel: provide on-the-job training, document competencies, and coach for skill progression toward lead fitter / welding qualification roles. 

• Coordinate with QA/QC and inspectors to resolve non-conformances, plan rework, and ensure final assemblies meet customer and code requirements. 

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 5+ years hands-on fabrication/shop experience with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity preferred. 

• Strong ability to read and enforce spool/isometric drawings, welding procedures, and fabrication work orders.

• Proven experience with rigging, lifts, basic metrology, and shop equipment safety.

• Clear communicator who can keep production on schedule while managing quality and safety.

Preferred Certifications and Training

• AWS Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS) or similar supervisory welding credential is a strong plus.

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or access to a CWI for the project helps streamline QC and inspection workflows. 

• NCCER credentials, NCCER instructor/assessment experience, or equivalent trade/apprenticeship credentials are advantageous. 

• OSHA 30, hot work awareness, confined space entry training, and site-specific safety tickets expected or required depending on project.
