Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Burkes Crane Rental team in Thomasville, AL. In this role, you’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of construction vehicles and heavy industrial equipment. Work will take place at customer job sites as well as company locations, requiring strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs on heavy equipment.

• Replace worn or damaged parts.

• Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.

• Inspect and operate heavy equipment to identify defects or performance issues.

• Test equipment after repairs or assembly to ensure proper function and manufacturer compliance.

• Perform routine maintenance including cleaning and lubrication.

• Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.

• Overhaul and test machines and equipment for optimal operating efficiency.

• Repair or adjust mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

• Use diagnostic tools and computerized testing equipment.

• Examine parts using precision tools such as micrometers and gauges.

• Follow all OSHA and company safety standards.

Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to work in dusty or dirty environments.

• Physical capability to stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 50 lbs.

• Physical ability to use hands, arms, and legs fully; grasp, manipulate and assemble small objects; and see and hear well (either naturally or with correction).

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

• High School Diploma or GED required.

• 2–3 years of relevant experience.

• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (CDL preferred).

• Must supply personal tools.

• Willingness to travel as needed.
