Mechanical Supervisor

About the Role
As a Mechanical Supervisor at Burkes Mechanical you’ll lead mechanical crews (fitters, welders, millwrights and rigging personnel) to deliver safe, on-spec installation, alignment, and commissioning of piping, rotating equipment, and structural mechanical systems. You’ll coordinate crews, enforce workmanship and safety standards, and partner with project management to meet schedule and quality goals.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise day-to-day mechanical field and shop activities: assign crews, sequence work, and monitor progress against production schedules.

Enforce fabrication and installation standards for piping, equipment sets, shaft alignments, supports, and structural assemblies.

Read and verify spool/isometric drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and work orders; ensure accurate as-built documentation.

Coordinate lifts, rigging, and equipment installs with rigging leads and crane operators; approve lift plans as required.

Oversee commissioning tasks, alignments, pre-commission checks, and handoffs to commissioning teams.

Manage QA/QC interactions: support NDT prep, resolve non-conformances, and document corrective actions.

Lead daily toolbox talks, verify permits (LOTO, hot work, confined space), and stop unsafe work.

Mentor and develop craft personnel: document competencies, provide on-the-job training, and coach for advancement.
Minimum Qualifications

5+ years hands-on mechanical/fabrication experience with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.

Strong ability to read and enforce spool/isometric drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical installation prints.

Demonstrated experience with rigging basics, lift coordination, and mechanical alignment principles.

Excellent communication and planning skills for coordinating multi-discipline crews and interfacing with project teams.

Comfortable working in shop and field environments; able to climb, lift, and work at heights as required.
Preferred Certifications and Training
-
NCCER craft credentials, trade school or apprenticeship completion preferred.

OSHA 30, rigging fundamentals, signalperson competency, and confined space/hot work training preferred.

Vendor or manufacturer equipment training, laser alignment or precision-measurement certifications advantageous.

Welding or millwright qualifications a plus for strong cross-discipline supervision.
