Pipe Fabrication Pipe Fitters

Build your future with Burkes Fabrication.

About the Role

As a Pipe Fabrication Pipe Fitter with Burkes Fabrication you’ll build, fit, and prepare piping spools and modular piping assemblies that keep refineries, petrochemical plants, power stations, and heavy-industry facilities running. You’ll cut, bevel, fit, tack and prepare pipe spools and assemblies for final welding and inspection, follow spool drawings and isometrics, and work closely with welders, layout techs and QC to deliver shop-ready spools for safe, on-schedule installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read spool drawings, isometrics and material lists; mark, cut, bevel and tag pipe for fit-up.

  • Perform fit-up and tack welding of spools, align flanges, install fittings, supports and hangers as required.

  • Use grinders, bevelers, pipe jacks, rollers and pipe-fit-up tools to prepare assemblies to welding specification.

  • Collaborate with welders and QA/QC to support dimensional checks, NDT prep, and weld repair/touch-up.

  • Maintain accurate spool traceability (heat numbers, joint numbers), complete work orders and keep the shop organized and safe.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 2+ years’ experience in pipe fitting, spool fabrication, or related fabrication shop work preferred.

  • Comfortable with fabrication tools, rigging small lifts, and working from lifts or stands.

  • Ability to read basic spool/isometric drawings and follow written work instructions.

Preferred Training and Certifications

  • NCCER Pipefitting curriculum or equivalent trade/apprenticeship credential is highly desirable.

  • Welding qualification experience (SMAW/MIG/FCAW) or familiarity with welding shop practices is a plus.

  • OSHA 10/30, hot work, confined space, and site-specific safety tickets as required by project.

What We Offer

  • Steady shop hours with project variety — opportunities to work on carbon steel, stainless and exotic alloy spools.

  • Clear training and advancement: helper → fitter → lead fitter → spool lead / field fitter.

  • Paid safety training, access to vendor courses, and support for NCCER or welding qualifications.

  • Benefits on eligible roles (health, retirement plans, paid time off) and premium pay for overtime and travel assignments.

Safety and Career Development

Safety is non-negotiable. Expect daily toolbox talks, hot work permitting, enforced PPE, and structured mentoring from experienced fitters and shop leads. We support competency growth through on-the-job training, welding qualification prep, and recognized craft credentials to help you build a long-term trade career.

Burkes Fabrication is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
