Field Safety Specialist

About the Role
As a Field Safety Specialist at Burkes Mechanical you’ll support the Site Safety Manager (SSM) in the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of safety programs on construction projects. This role assists with daily safety operations, inspections, training, and documentation to help ensure a safe, compliant, and productive work environment. The FSS serves as a visible safety presence on site and works closely with field personnel, subcontractors, and supervisors.
Key Responsibilities

Be a role model for safety, promoting a positive safety culture and encouraging safe work practices

Help coordinate and deliver safety orientations for new employees, subcontractors, and visitors

Assist the SSM in implementing site-specific safety plans and company safety policies

Conduct daily safety inspections and identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and document twice weekly
-
Report safety concerns, incidents, and near misses to the SSM

Assist with incident investigations, documentation, and corrective actions
-
Conduct or assist with toolbox talks, safety meetings and safety training sessions
-
Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, site rules, and PPE requirements

Support management and field with Job Hazard Analyses and pre-task (JPSA)

Communicate safety expectations clearly to crews and subcontractors
-
Assist during regulatory inspections, audits, and client safety reviews

Promote a positive safety culture by leading by example and encouraging safe work practices
Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required
-
1–3 years of construction safety or related field experience
-
Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices
-
OSHA 10-hour certification (required; OSHA 30 preferred or ability to obtain)

First Aid / CPR certification (required or ability to obtain)

Strong communication and organizational skills
-
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse crews and subcontractors

Willingness to learn and grow into advanced safety responsibilities

Associate’s degree or coursework in Safety, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)

Previous experience working on active construction sites preferred
Other Requirements
-
Ability to walk construction job site terrain for extended periods
-
Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs
-
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
-
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
-
Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the industrial construction industry
